A friend of mine asked me for a recipe “Better Then S*x Cake. She knows I have several cookbooks and last year I did a family cookbook. I said sure I will give you the recipe. Then she tells me it is for her cousin that makes cakes and sells them. A guy wanted one of those cakes and her cousin has never made one before. She told her cousin I would probley have the recipe.
I don’t mind sharing recipes but to give one to someone that was going to make money off of it I felt kind of indifferent about that. I did email her cousin the recipe but I felt like changing some things from like 1 cup of sugar to ½ cup, or 3 eggs to 1 egg etc.
I didn’t do this but I felt like it after I found out the girl was going to make money from it.
What would you do or think about this?

The requestor was tackie and you were a gracious lady...
Don't know if I'd have done it for those reasons. I might have shared it for a family b'day, or something...

Starfire, you're such a sweet, kind person-you're always a lady and a giving friend.  I don't know if I mentioned that I used to own a bakery & catering service when I lived in WI. I had a homemade cookbook of all the recipes I used in the business. I would gladly share any other recipes I had(I have over 600 cookbooks) but the ones in the 'business cookbook' were never shared. I also never asked anyone for a recipe that I'd use in the business-to me if I'd have used it I would have felt I should pay them royalties! ;D Most of my recipes were family heirlooms that I tweaked. If it had been a close family member that asked, that would have been one thing but I don't think I'd have been as sweet as you about just giving it out for someone to make money from.  |

I have about 5 of my "best" recipes that I don't give out to anyone. All the rest I give out. I have found out that most folks never get around to making them though.

I am always making or trying something. I really enjoy cooking but just me I end up giving my parents some or taking it to work.
