Wow, Bergere, those are some fancy-lookin' chikins! I found some in my McMurray's catalog and they're WAY expensive, so I think I'll start out with the Red Stars for now. Rich and I have discussed the Guinea information, and he'd like to get some and try them out. So I think I'm going to get some Red Stars for eggs, some Cornish Rocks for meat, and some Guineas for bug hunting. (Pssst... don't tell Rich, but I want to end up with a lot more than that - I want some ducks, too - I just love ducks! Maybe not till next year, but I want some ducks!) Now I have to figure out if I can get the chicken house remodeled and get the run built in time to get chicks this year. I still have a couple months, don't I? But I don't want to order them until their place is completely ready. I already have feeders, a waterer, a kiddie-pool and a heat lamp (for the chicks) that I got last year before our plans went awry. I even have a couple of bags of chick-starter, but it's a year old, so it's probably not any good now. I should just toss it out for the wild birds, huh? ~Lannie

I had those cheap kiddie pools from the dollar stores for my ducks and geese. Boy they loved them. I had a little submersible sump pump that I used to drain them with and that 'manure enhanced' water went to water the fruit trees & fruiting bushes. Boy did those shrubs & trees grow!!
