White Rock, Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Buff Orphington and Aucaruna (sp?). I can never spell or even pronounce that breed... it's the "Easter Egg" chicken though. ;D I came darn close to getting some ducks to.... maybe next year...

Oooh! They're adorable! I love the little fuzzybutts! I got some, too, wanna see? There are an even dozen, but they move around so fast it's hard to count them! LOL! They hatched the morning after you got yours! (Got some more guinea keets, too, finally!) ~Lannie

Aw..they are all so cute!! I can waste so much time when there are little chickies around.
Our chicks have reached the ugly adolescent phase. Almost feathered out, but their heads and neck are still fluffy. They use to follow momma all around, but now I notice she follows them around trying to keep an eye on them.
I need to get a few turkeys. I only have one left in the freezer.

I have 4 chicks left and no mama. The fox found them this morning. He got the guinea mama yesterday morning and her 5 keets were out loose all day and night. I saw two keeets this morning, but without a mama, I don't think they have a chance. I put the 4 surviving chicks (there were 7, but we could only catch 4 and I think the cats got the rest) with the mama hen that has the 3 keets and they're all locked up in the coop now, but that mama doesn't WANT these 4 Brahma chicks, so I don't know how this is going to work out.
So now I'm down to 2 adult guinea roosters, 3 keets with the Brahma hen, 2 wild keets loose on the property and 4 Brahma chicks, if they survive and the hen doesn't kill them or something.
What a bummer.

I only have a minute, so I'll have to explain later (I'll start another thread Kaza, sorry for hijacking this one!), but I now have EIGHT Brahma chicks and FIVE guinea keets in the nursery with my one remaining mama hen. What a stressful 3 days this has been. Right now I'm going to go take off my shoes and RELAX! And EAT! OMG, I'm starving, and sore, and tired, and... well, I'll explain later. It's a long story... but at least it has a relatively happy ending. ~Lannie

Wow, they DO grow fast, don't they? My chicks look like little chickens now, too. Zeus the Rooster has adopted all of them, since no hen would take care of them. It's pretty funny watching him out there doing the whole "hen" thing, scratching for them, calling them to food, keeping them together as they travel around. Adorable. ~Lannie
