I had two large young Araucauna roosters that I had hatched out last year. This spring, the hormones hit them hard and they have been a doing a super job of keeping the hen eggs fertilized. The problem was that they were so large they were ripping out the feathers on the hens....so, I put them in the trade papers, had ads online for FREE ROOSTERS....no takers. I was ready to just kill them both this morning, but my tree cutters showed up; of course they would, as today I was busy, worried about my mother and the winds were/are a good 40 mph. So, one of them brought along his young daughter who wanted to see 'my zoo'...... Even though I was the one who needed to be there to tell them which trees were to be cut, where I wanted them to fall, etc. I got stuck baby sitting.... The roosters were spared for another day..... Finally, when the trees were cut and on the ground; the mess is mine to clean up. We all sat down to drink some sodas and talk a bit. She told her dad she wanted some chickens to have for pets.... I asked her if she wanted two pet roosters.....SURE! So, now the big boys are gone! They have a good sized chain link fence in the back yard and I said the roosters would love it! ONe less worry for me! Nine zillion more to go! TH

That was a good visit then, it got rid of one set of critter and they sound like they went to a good home. Take some time to relax and just mellow out-don't wear yourself out with worry and 'to do' lists; you can't help anyone if you're sick too.

TY Kathy! If it were not for this group I would be in the loony bin myself. There are a lot of good folks on here. I would welcome most of them for neighbors or family! I just put the eggs into the incubator early this morning. I should have some fuzzy little chicks in a few weeks! I love chicks! They make me feel so SPRINGY! TH

Chicks do have a way of making a person feel like everything is going to be all right. Once they hatch, if possible, I'd love to see some pics since chicks aren't possible here. Heck, as of right now I'm considering breaking my lease and just heading out to the property and living in a tent-it was a bad day.

That reminds me of something...when I had to live in the big city I used to dream about going out in the middle of nowhere and living in a YURT! I think that they are really cool! Just a thought! Something else I always wanted to live in was one of those portable cabins....they are on skids, so NOT TAXABLE!!! I will take some pics of the chicks when they hatch! Most of them will be striped like little chipmunks! TH

We had to give one of our roosters away. He is now living in a nicer house than we have. He is in the poolhouse of a 5,000 sq.ft. waterfront lakehouse. The lady who took him, has him take an afternoon nap in her lap! He is spoiled rotten now.

Hey, I'd sit for a possum if I got to live in that kind of luxury.
