That's why I got the Big Berkey-when I moved to KY the initial intention was to live off grid using the pond and year round creek for water. I needed a filtration system that would be effective with those types of water supplies.

I wish there were a bit more info on the site though.
The pond she wants to use isnt stagnant but it is not very large. About 1/4 acre and about 8ft deep. No livestock use it etc. Not full of algae etc. So I am tryng to find something she can use safely. Shes kinda in sancrafts position. Single mom etc. I have been taking water to them and letting them use my truck and trailer to haul some over there. Need to get something going though as its a pretty good drive and alot of trouble for her going back and forth all the time.

Kathy how often to you have to change or clean the filters?
Do you remember how much you paid? I'm told they are very expensive.

The cartridges are cleaned with a scotch brite and I would do it about once a month. It's not any harder to do than cleaning your sink-maybe even less time consuming. I think I paid about $230 for mine but they may have either gone up or down since 1999. Some things seem to become cheaper over time while others just keep going up.
