Anyone have experience with them? I need educated, big time because I know nothing about them.
I have no idea how much they cost but would like to stay under $200. Also, we live on a hill covered with big tree's and a normal radio doesn't come in very well. We get one local channel that is it. Will we need to set up some kind of antennae? Are these radio's worth it for news? Hoping you can buy them as a crank radio, or maybe solar because it would also be used in our survival stuff and we don't do batteries for that.

I got a real nice one for less than 200. Since I don't have an antenna it doesn't get good reception though.

Yeah, I had a feeling we would need to get a big antennae. This sounds like something dh will have to buy, since I am so clueless on electronics, lol.
I hear so many people have these and they are great to have if the tv goes out or you have no electricity. Plus if the shtf, you would get what is going on in the world hopefully.

We did an outdoor wire antenna that you hung between trees but it didn't help much. DH and I are clueless on radio/electronics.
The radio is a portable Sony. I can't remember the model # but it was recommended to me by a radiophile! Now if I could just get him to set up an antenna for me.

Grundig is a good brand. Make your own antenna. They are not hard to make. Take a look at AC6V's HOMEBREW ANTENNAS LINKS for starters www.ac6v.com/antprojects.htm

We knew a family the next road over from us at the old place, that were big into Short wave radio....and they did have a monster of an anntena. With the way your woods are...might be a mother bear to get one up high enough. To bad you could not test stuff out before you bought.
Another issue is...if you ever want to move... you will not get as much for the property with that stuff on it. My dad has seen that time and time again. Just something to think about.
