That actually doesn't look too difficult!! I might give it a try! Have you checked for the root beer extract in your area?
I'll have to see if we have it here in Memphis. I think Lehmans used to carry it but I don't know if they still do or not.
I love gingerale too-maybe if I get good at root beer, I'll try gingerale! ;D
Now you'll have to make some homemade ice cream so you can have a real root beer float! ;D

Granny told me when she was little they made sasparilla soda at home. They even had some kind of bottles with caps and made it up in big batches. This would have been around 1905-1910. Your post made me remember her.

well I cracked open the first bottle this morning. I am not totaly impresed but still optomistic
it had fine carbination.the alcohol taste was not expected but will do fine and the next batch needs more sugar.
it is a little cloudy and has sediment in the bottom. but the sediment cant be avoided acording to the instructions
I better keep working on it due to the fact that I have an entire case of extract. enough to make 60 gal. of root beer

Bob, does it have the familiar root beer taste even though the recipe may need tweaking?? Does it foam up like Hires or A&W root beer when you pour it?? So many questions, now I just may have to try this myself !!

yes and yes
but I think it needs more extract and more carbination to get like store bought pop
I cant say I enjoy it yet but it is close

Post by bobclark on Mar 16, 2006 9:39:11 GMT -5
yes, It makes alcohol as well as carbon dioxide to form the corbination
they say it tests low thogh. I would take alot to equil a beer
but you can definatly taste it.

A way to keep the kiddies quiet!! I think it's because the yeast is working with the sugar-and the time being so short, it's tasting like alcohol. I wonder what proof it is? ;D

the longer it sets in the fridge the better it gets. of I an just getting used to it.
I will be making another batch to day. I am going to increase the sugar a very little and the extract as well.

This sounds interesting. I hope you can get it to tasting like you want it to. If we ever all get together you can be in charge of the root beer.
