everything I have read says that you cant make diet or sugar free root beer, because the yeast needs sugar to make the Co2
how about a blend of sugar and artifical sweetners? I was thinking of trying it with 1/4 real sugar and 3/4 artifical

Splenda has something called a Baking blend which is real sugar and Splenda. Since I'm not supposed to have any sugared sodas, I was thinking of trying one batch using that combo. Here's the link for the Splenda baking blend info-it sounds like it should feed the yeast but keep us from having quite so much sugar. ;D Splenda Baking Blend

it just gets better and better. the longer it sitts in the fridge the better it tastes. and the better the sediment sits on the bottom
it is better than any store bought pop I have ever had

Bob, sounds like you have a new passion in your life. You will soon be known as that guy that lives in the woods with the rabbits and makes his own root beer. Be sure to tell 'em that carrots are the roots you use.

Bob-I don't even like root beer but with all this talk you make me want to drink a bottle. You'd make a good salesman.
