We all like yogurt, but get tired of it easily. Sometimes we add granola to it for a change but that is the only thing I know what to do.
Besides adding cut up fruit, what do you all add to your yogurt to make it yummy?

bbird, are you eating the yogurt for breakfast? Or are you trying to find ways to incorporate it into your diet?
If it's the second one, I buy plain (not vanilla) lowfat yogurt and substitute it for half the amount of mayo called for when making tuna salad, chicken salad, etc.
It also makes a nice salad dressing if you mix in a dill weed, juice, salt and pepper.
For the sweetened "breakfast/snack type" yogurt, you could add nuts to it, or dip preztels or vegetables in it as a snack.

For years, I made my own yogurt, because as a veggie person, it's hard to find a yogurt in the store in the midwest that does not have gelatin in it, and I just don't do gelatin. It's a beef bone thing. I had friends who did as Starfire said who would put it on their homemade granola, or you can make wonderful fresh veggie dip, or even chip dip if I ate chips with it by adding fresh herbs and/or finely chopped onions. Dill is special, too, or even this time of yr., finely chopped fresh spinach. Just mix it up the night before and put it in the fridge before so the flavors can blend. Yogurt can be substituted for sour cream in most any recipe if you are into baking and is really good, especially with herbs and chives, as a topping on baked potatoes instead of sour cream. Plain also works well as a topping/condoment on Mexican food, like burritos, enchiladas, and the like. Deb

My daughter and I have noticed that our jeans are getting a little looser in the waist since we have been eating more yogurt and from reading up on it, yogurt cuts out stomach fat first so we were going to try and keep up on eating it everyday. Plus we are not big milk drinkers so eating yogurt is better then eating cheese for our calcium.
I never thought of using it like mayo. I'm going to try that because everyone likes mayo on their sandwiches.
For the salad dressing is the juice you add...lemon juice? I'm going through a phase where all salad dressing (from creamy to oils) just taste different then they use to. I don't know what it is that has changed or if it is me but I've been trying homemade dressings and trying to find one I like.
Deb- I have a sister in law who is a veggie and won't eat gelatin too. I was amazed on what has gelatin in it...had no idea actually what gelatin is until she told me.

Yes, it's amazing, isn't it, bbird? Gelatin is derived from beef bones. I understand the reason it is in commercial yogurt is to obtain that certain consistancy people seem to prefer, other then that is has no purpose in yogurt. Homemade yogurt is always a bit more runny, but other then that just as nutritious. Even candy, not that I eat it, but when my girls were younger, and they were both veggie girls also, lots of any of the softer candies and taffy, have gelatin in them...I trained them to read that tiny list of ingredients on each and everything bought from a store. They even screened their Halloween candy, and other things like Easter Basket candy from their own Grandma. It's amazing how much lard, chicken fat, beef broth, meat flavorings, gelatin...I could go on and on, is in processed foods, even if at first glance it appears to be something we might be able to eat. Most people just don't understand. Deb

I make my own yogurt, too, and one way I really love it is to put a few drops of Stevia liquid in, and a splash of vanilla extract, then stir it all up. Better than ice cream! But that's more of a dessert-y type thing.

P.S. If your homemade yogurt is too runny, strain it through a cloth towel (like a floursack dishtowel) lining a strainer set into a larger bowl in the fridge. You can drain it all the way to the consistency of cream cheese, or even harder (yogurt cheese) that way. Then add fresh herbs or spices or whatever grabs you and use it as a spread or a dip. ;D
