We\'re having a large dinner party next week for Thanksgiving. I am interested to see what everyone is planning for their menu. Here is ours so far. I think it will be enough.
cheese and cracker spread
Turkey Mashed Potatoes Gravy Stuffing, not sure what kind yet broccoli cranberry sauce dinner rolls
Sweet Potato Pie Pecan Pie Black Forest cake
We are debating on whether or not to include an apple pie for our guests. No one in our family likes it though so well probably will skip it.

Yes pecans are very expensive these days but its tradition. You are having a few things that I have never heard of. What is an olive and beef spread? I am looking for another appetizer, is that a good one for a diverse crowd? If it is I would sure like that recipe. I have also never heard of angel biscuits or harvest jello salad either and I cook a lot.

The Angel Biscuits recipe is in the breads forum so I'll just post the link here for you. They're very good with honey butter with a dash of cinnamon stirred in. Angel Biscuit RecipeHarvest Jello Salad is pretty simple. I've been making it since I was about 8 so it's a 45 yr old recipe that my mother made. I don't have any measurements though-it was one of those 'add till it looks right' recipes. Ingredients:Orange Jello with 1/2 cup less fluid than called for so it's stiffer than plain jello. Oh, use the pineapple juice drained from the pineapple in the jello Grated CarrotsDrained crushed pineapple-use a good brand so there's no hard pieces Toasted pecans or Walnuts I prefer pecans but my mother made it with English Walnuts Make the jello, put in fridge until it just starts to thicken. Stir in the carrots, pineapple and nuts. If you want at this point you can pour into a jello mold. It's a very pretty salad and tastes good too. ;D I'll post the dried beef/olive spread recipe tonight-dinner is almost ready.

Hogflats, here's the spread recipe; I hope you are familiar with old fashioned cooks who don't measure or use precise amounts-cause this is another 'guesstimate' type recipe. ;D The nice thing is this recipe can be doubled or tripled since the amounts aren't exact. Olive/Dried Beef Dip2 packages softened Cream Cheese 8 oz each 1 large soup spoon +/- of Miracle Whip or Salad Dressing-not mayo! 1/2 yellow onion grated or very finely chopped. approx 1/4 c total 1 can pitted Black olives chopped or 1 jar Stuffed Spanish Olives drained & chopped. 1 jar dried beef-finely chopped. If you're a real meat lover you can use 2 jars.Mix the cream cheese and Miracle whip together. Add in the onions and mix well. Stir in the olives and beef and mix. At this point, check for consistency-you might need more Miracle whip to make it a thick but spreadable consistency. I don't put salt in mine because the beef and olives provide all the salt I like but you can season to taste. This dip is best made a day or two ahead so the flavors have time to meld together. The black olive version is less salty if you have folks with bp concerns. When I serve it I use a pretty cut glass bowl, some chopped parsley around the edge to simulate a wreath and a few pieces of the pimentos from green olives to make it look like berries on the wreath. I hope your family enjoys it as much as my friends and family always have-that's one food item that is a tradition at my place.

Well, our thanksgiving day changed, because we got second season elk tags and it falls during this time and it's my dh's one day off without losing overtime so we are staying home! I'm actually glad too!
We will be having ..... Turkey Mashed potato's and gravy stuffing (made with bread) sweet potato's Watergate salad Cranberry jelly potato rolls black olives veggie tray
Then as treats we have lefse (pottacocca), pumpkin pie and cheesecake.
We will be eating this for at least 4 days, and be fully sick of it by the end of the the four days! lol AND yeah, it's a lot of potato stuff but that is what happens when a Swedish and Norwegian marry. ;-)

We have no idea what we're having. Isn't that sweet? LOL We have this family that is absolutely un-organized. We made sure that between myself and Grandmother In-Law we have the basics covered.
Turkey Dressing (cornbread of course) Jalepeno Dressing Green Bean Casserole Mashed Potatoes Broccoli Cheese Casserole (maybe) Cranberry Jello Stuff (I don't know what the proper name is but this is yummy) Pecan Pie Sweet Potato Pie (maybe) Cream Cheese Fruit Salad Rolls Cranberry Sauce Home made Macaroni and Cheese
