Emeril will be taping his last episode on the food network on Dec. 11th. I don't watch it alot, but I do think the network is focusing too much on people with looks etc.

I've noticed lately that the Food Network is getting away from dishes that the average person would make and more into stuff you'd only see in Hollywood or New York. There's still a few shows I like but it's slowly losing it's appeal. I guess I just don't keep the right things in my pantry-nary a can of caviar or goose liver pate' to be found. I wonder if Emeril will become the host of a new show, they did something similar to Bob Vila on the DIY channel, he came back with a different show & a name that was just one word different than the show that was cancelled.

<< I've noticed lately that the Food Network is getting away from dishes that the average person would make and more into stuff you'd only see in Hollywood or New York. >>
I've noticed that too. One of the main reasons I like 'Good Eats' with Alton Brown (the guy /Via swoons over) is because he usually fixes things that real people can relate to. He also incorporates a good dose of humor (wacky) along with down-to-earth explanations of the science involved with what makes food 'work'. If you're not a Good Eats watcher give it a try.
PS Emeril will still be doing the 'Essence of Emeril' show, at least for now. I like watching him but sometimes I find it a bit irritating that he repeats himself a LOT.

I like Alton Brown. He's my kind of guy. He not only tells you how to make something, he 'splains it at the same time, and makes me giggle. I get such a kick out of his props! LOL!

I'm not crazy about Emeril either, but he was one of the first "stars" on the food network. It seems almost "disloyal" to dump him now. I can watch him alot easier than that bony Italian girl with the low cut tee shirts. The network is changing their direction. I guess they figure it will improve ratings. Maybe they will add another Rachael Ray or Deen family show.

<< I can watch him alot easier than that bony Italian girl with the low cut tee shirts. >> Do you mean Giada De Laurentis? Low-cut tee shirts? Golly! I guess I never noticed that! I don't think I'd fix most of the stuff she does on her show, but it's not such exotic stuff that I just MIGHT be able to do it if I were to really try. I think it's good that she's chosen to work and do something with her life rather than just live off Daddy's money (she's one of the 'Oscar De Laurentis' family) and be a party twit like 'Parasite' Hilton. I guess Good Eats is my favorite Food Channel show, although I don't swoon over Alton Brown like /Via does. I guess that's some kind of hormonal thing? I like Paula Deen too. I really like a lot of the dishes she fixes, but I wish she'd back off a bit with the over-the-top exaggerated 'southernese'. And I don't swoon over her!

I guess Giada reminds me of that old saying, "Never trust a skinny cook". (I am a VERY trustworthy cook) Good Eats is a good show. I also like Diners, Dives or something like that. The goofy blond guy goes to all kinds of Mom & Pop type restaurants. I don't see why they gave Paula's sons a show. There must be millions of folks who would love to travel around and eat. Why do they get the job?

And she's a Food Network staple? I would never eat anything she cooked, but she definitely has a following of people who do. Maybe she threatened to quit if her boys didn't get their own show. You never know! ~Lannie

I like most of her recipes, of course I am a big supporter of the butter, sugar & cream industries. I agree that the Y'alls are getting a bit thick. I didn't even know her boys had a show now.

I'm truly sorry if I offended any Paula Deen fans. I'd delete my post, but since it's already quoted in yours, Kathy, I'll leave it. But I'm sorry and I won't do it again.

I'm sure just as many people like Paula as dislike her. I think that party show of hers is awful I watched part of it once and it was pretty raunchy. I hope they aren't all like that.
I'm not a big Emeril fan either but I appreciate how he has gotten so many kids to get interested in cooking. They just love it when he "Bams" something.

I can't say I have watched a complete cooking show on the food network, but I do like the show "License to Grill"...I think that is on another network though. Most shows I've tried to watch show food I wouldn't fix, but slap some meat on the bbq and I am in heaven, lol.

Of course the guy cooking isn't hard on the eyes either. Momo, what party are you talking about with Paula? I must have missed it, I don't get to watch the Food Network often so I only see the shows hit & miss. Doesn't Emeril also have some sort of Scholarship for upcoming chefs or is that Bobby Flay?

Kathy..it's an hour show where she cooks with a small group of people. It's on during the weekend(Friday or Sat) evening. The episode I saw was full of "double entendre" things. I think some of the people were pretty embarassed about her constantly making these comments. She was also putting her hands all over the men who she had at the cooktop helping her.

I just realized you people have been talking about my Alton! You can talk about him but he's all mine. I'll still swoon even after he loses the rest of his hair My aunt says I remind her of Paula Deen I think this aunt genuinely likes me so I'm not real sure what to think of that. Anyway, I like that her recipes use real stuff and I've heard that she really struggled in her life so I'm glad she's successful...but her accent does seem to be getting thicker by the hour. Giada seems to be the real thing, although I've never made any of her recipes. She was very shy and her first efforts on camera were almost painful to watch. Her interest in food is genuine - she is a classically trained French chef so she's got street cred in my book Bobby Flay is the one who sort of rubs me the wrong way. He seems cocky and I don't like that show where he gets someone's recipe and then shows up for a surprise challenge to see if he can do better. I think I'd cry if he did that to me. Let's see...who else...OH! Tyler Florence! Hubba hubba! He's had a couple of different shows but I like his low-key style. I liked the one where he would go into people's homes and show them how to fix something that they were bad at making: meatloaf, etc. He didn't seem to talk down to anyone or make fun of a humble kitchen. That's all the opinions I've got for now so I'll close with a quick reminder to keep your hands off my Alton. /Via

I forgot about him! His 'helping hand' show is 'Food 9-1-1' I believe. I'm not sure if it's still on, but I like it and I've learned a thing or two from it. I, too, like his low-key style.

Gotta check this guy out and see if he is oogle worthy! I'm with you VM...if someone came into my kitchen and tried to show me up with one of my own recipes...I would cry first THEN slip some exlax into his brownies!

Another thing that bugs me about a lot of the chefs is they don't cook the food beyond medium-no matter if it's beef, poultry or fish! Personally, I don't want my chicken medium well where it's still very pink inside. Maybe I'm a germ/virus/parasite-a-phobe but that is just a big no no and Bobby Flay does it constantly! He made duck on one episode and that duck breast was a deep red except for about 1/4" around the outer area when he sliced it and served it.

Not bad VM! He looks like he would be nice! He is only a year younger than I am though....nearly old enough to be your daddy...then again...Sean Connery is still cute to me...so.....I understand.....go right on and have that crush on Alton girl.....by the looks of things you certainly have a lot of company!
