The other day Mom said she had seen a recipe calling for 'flaked' hominy and asked me to look for it next time I was at the grocery store. I'd never heard of it and the store didn't have anything but white and 'golden' hominy in cans. Google search turned up some links but no real information. Does anyone know what flaked hominy is and how to get it?

I bought a couple pounds of it at the Amish bulk foods store in KY when I lived there. I put it in vacumm sealed bag and froze it; never did use it before I moved. I gave it to Cody and he used it in a Mexican stew dish called Posole. That wasn't the traditional way it is used, but then again, Cody isn't a traditionalist. From what I remember Roy the Amish seller telling me, it was supposed to be prepared like grits or cream of wheat and eaten like a cereal.

Thanks, Kathy. So it's dried, not a canned product. I'll have to look some more to find out where I can get it I just looked at WalMart and Kroger. I'll have to try some of the more high-end stores and see what they have.

Yup it's dried, from what I remember it looks like very yellow thick cut oats.
You'll probably have the best luck finding it at a bulk food store. I've never seen it in the area here or in Memphis-not even at Whole Foods or Wild Oats, ust at that one little Amish store.
