By "fun" I mean non-edibale things. I grow flowers (last year was my first year trying that. I save the seeds and will plant them this year and see how I did in storing them. I also dried a lot of the flowers, but many of them went 'to seed' while dried in the vases. ooopsie!
What non-food things do you all grow?

Rich really likes flowers, so we planted some bulbs last year. I've also tried to plant some herbs that have showy flowers (like echinacea and bergamot), so he can enjoy the flowers, but I have a source of medicine if necessary. I'm also currently having a passionate love affair with French Marigolds. I interplanted them in the vegetable garden last summer (they supposedly control soil-borne baddies), but they are so GORGEOUS! They're full, compact and seem to bloom forever. I let them go to seed though, so next year, they should be all over the garden. That's OK with me. I love the flame orange color of them. ~Lannie

Had some some Roses, Rhodie's and a Camellia bush that was already here when we moved in. Along with some very old fruit trees. The three nice Rhodie bushes should be taken out since I let the horses up by the house to mow for me. Wanted to find someone to give them too but no takers. One Rhodie is a pretty color so is the Camellia. Lets just say I do not need my glasses to see those roses! Not my cup a tea, but they came with the house. Think there is also a peony. Need to get that one moved.
Last year I planted two old fashion lilac's, two Camellia bushes, two different magnolia trees. Oh,, and just planted two Climbing roses so they will grow along the front fence by the house. Oh,, and 170 trees. ;D Am trying to keep it more simple at this place. Plan on just planting easy to care for perennials.
There is a Japanese maple I really want but it is rather hard to find. Is a bright green leaf in the summer,, and a gold fall color. There are also 4 clematis I want, to plant with the climbing roses.

I do grow lots of flowers, last year we built a big herb garden and just for fun I started looking for all the "worts". I now have Sandwort, Mugwort, Lungwort, and Soapwort. This year I want to find Spiderwort and, well, any other kind of "wort".

Lest we forget houseplants. Sometimes I think that is all that keeps me going in the winter. Deb ;D

OK,, got the 4 Clematis..though not the ones I wanted but they were cheaper. Can't put them out until we have warmer weather. And...oh...ahh.... I went by that nursery... and bought another Camellia. ButI only bought 1 plant. Though it could of been because my knee was really hurting and I did not want to walk any more. So did anyone one get anything lately?
