Well, I finally started some seeds! I've been itching to do this since the middle of January, but I was a good girl and waited. I've got cell-packs of celery (THANKS, TNBORN!) and cabbage started, as of yesterday. I checked for sprouts today, but alas, they have not begun to sprout! LOL! This is the part that drives Rich crazy, whether it takes 4 days or 2 weeks, I'm there with a magnifying glass every day, looking for the tiniest little bit of green. He thinks I'm crazy. I was going to start some tomatoes and peppers, too (THANKS AGAIN, TNBORN!) but last year's got so big in the house before it was safe to set them out, I decided I'd better wait another 3 or 4 weeks. I started all my tomatoes and peppers last year from seed, and even though I was told that wasn't the best way, I had 100% germination and I don't think I lost a single plant. So that's how I'm going to do it from now on. Anyway, I just thought I'd share the good news! I'm going to have some more green children soon! ;D ~Lannie

I finally got around to getting my stuff started Saturday. I have a definite case of spring fever. I noticed these last couple nicer days that my tulips and miniature daylilies are already trying to come up. Deb

Well, I actually have some seeds started now. Having the day off work really helpped. I planted the double fushias (?), watermelon and zuccunni seeds so far. I also have to hold off on the maters & peppers as we have about 6-8 inches of snow left on the ground. (It's melting though!!!) I thought I had replied to this this morning.... *shrugs* must have been all in my head. [glow=purple,2,300] Kaza [/glow]

Kaza, are you planting outdoors already? I see you're in Michigan...I'm a bit further south of you (zone 6B according to the chart) but haven't started anything yet because I thought it was too cold.
I am a one year veteran of gardening so I want to make sure I'm not missing my window of opportunity! I am going to direct sow because I have no place inside.

ViaMedia... Noooo not outside... we still have about 8 inches of snow left to melt. I start my seeds indoors then will move them to the greenhouse in about a month.

Edited to add: I'm in zone 4B

Okay...you know, you did mention all the snow in your original post. I was starting to think you had some kind of magic watermelons!! I wonder if Mickey D's is taking applications... So I've learned two valuable things today: #1 I'm in zone 6b (I had to look it up) #2 I can't plant watermelons outdoors at the beginning of March in Michigan ;D /VM

VM, you made my day! I HAVE A SPROUT!!!! Actually it came up yesterday morning, but I've been busy and today had to do our monthly shopping trip in Rapid, so we were gone all day. But yup, I have a teeny-weeny cabbage sprout! I had to make Rich come and look at it. He looked like this: It's so funny that I go through this every single year. I still haven't lost my total amazement when tiny little sprouts appear in my pots. ;D Maybe tomorrow I'll have another sprout! LOL! ~Lannie

You're very welcome Lannie. I am holding off germinating. I planted way toooo early last year. Between my chickens and early planting, my garden was a bust. tnborn
