We are having such a blast! The weather has been gorgeous and we're getting a lot of work done outside. Which is where I should be right now, but I wanted to let you all know what's been going on with me the last few weeks.
My chicks are growing like weeds and they have little tiny tail feathers already! Boy, are they fast! It's getting harder and harder to catch one. These are supposed to be gentle, easy to handle chickens (Light Brahmas) - HA! Well, maybe when they get older, they'll settle down some.
Rich is working on getting their permanent house ready. All that's left is to cover the inside walls with some plywood, put up the nest boxes and roosts, and build the run outside. We have all the materials, just trying to find the time. And it better be soon, the way those girls are growing. ;D
We got the garden all cleaned up and the beds tilled, and today I'm FINALLY getting my peas planted. I built some little string tipis for them to grow on, and Rich is building me an arch trellis for the beans. All my herbs except the lemon balm and lavender are growing like crazy. The cats found the catnip!
I'm really having a hard time NOT going out and planting the whole garden right now, because I know there's going to be more freezing weather and snow. But the last week or so has been in the 70's during the days and low 40's at night, so it's really hard to resist.
The lawn and all the pastures are bright green now (that happened overnight, it seems!), and my mare is having a field day with all the new grass (pun intended!). She's also lost most of her winter coat, so if we do have some more freezing weather, she's going to be cold. Oh, well. She's having fun now, and she even had a shower the other day (she said it was too hot and she needed a cold shower).
Well, that's about it for now. Gotta get out to the garden and get my peas in the ground now. Then help Rich work on the chicken house. Maybe I'll bring the babies out in their playpen again today. They love being outside, scratching and dusting in the open fresh air. ;D
Till later!
