I'm sure you all read about our giant radishes. Well, today we harvested our first real crop..3 nice heads of early cabbage. They are beautiful and will be used for slaw at our fish fry tonight! We planted 3 varieties of cabbage and this one is a 6 week type. Just beautiful and soooo fresh.

Good for you, Momo. Our spring has been either very winter-like, or very summer-like, with no inbetween. All I have had for fresh anything is chives, both regular and garlic, but I anticipate my first spinach harvest any day soon. Deb

I finally got to eat something out of my garden yesterday, too. I picked some spinach and lettuce leaves and used them in a wrap sandwich. They're still kind of little, so I just grabbed enough for a couple of sandwiches, but I think in another week or two, I'll be having salads for dinner!
My radishes are a bust, though. I have the long red kind, not the Cherry Bell, and although the texture was fine, and they were crisp and juicy, they were very bitter and WAAAAY hot! I had to spit out every bite I tried. YUK! I guess I won't try those again. Or maybe I grew them wrong, who knows? No big loss, anyway, I'm not a huge radish-eater in the first place.
My cabbages are a long way from maturity yet, but I have hope that this year I'll be able to get some of it. The last two years I've lost all of them to cabbage moths (the larvae), but this year, I made a wood and chicken-wire frame and stapled floating row cover over the whole thing. Of course, I have to lift it to water under it (the sprinkler has no effect), but they're growing well in there so far. Keeping my fingers crossed!
