I have a bunch of tulips, daffodils and other bulbs I need to plant. Is now the right time? I'm in zone 7 according to the USDA & 6b according to the National Gardening Assoc.

I would wait to after the chance of frost is over. However, daffodils are hardy and hard to kill.
If planted now, would cover with leaf mulch and hay to provide more insulation and less chance of being killed.

You can plant bulbs anytime up until the ground freezes solid. You don't want to plant them too early, though, so they start to grow this year. Just use your good judgement. Tulips are very hardy. I have never killed a tulip or any other type bulb even if I haven't gotten the timing of the planting right because of the weather. The main thing is to make sure you get them planted at the proper depth, but I cheat a lot with that and have never had a problem. Up here, our weather can be winter-like one wk., then fall-like the next, so it's best just to get it over with since I don't like working in freezing cold winds. You guys are warmer, of course, yet it's still no fun for anyone to be out planting in cold weather. The only thing I take into consideration is the soil in flat ground beds stays cooler then if you are planting right up by your house or a building where the sun builds up more heat. Deb
