It's time to start planning the garden and I wondered how you all select the varieties you'll plant.
Do you only plant heirloom, open pollinated varieties or do you also plant some hybrids? Or do you only plant hybrids?
I know the heirloom, open pollinated allow a person to save viable seeds but there's some benefits to certain hybrids.
For me it's going to be about 75% heirlooms and 25% hybrids.

I always plant the OP varieties, too, so I can save the seeds. This year, I don't have to buy any seeds (or maybe for the next several years! LOL!). However, I have been known to plant seeds from something I bought from the store, usually squash or melon, and so far, I've succeeded. I just finished drying some seeds from a store-bought spaghetti squash that I'll be planting this year. Hopefully they'll sprout. I'm a rabid seed-collector - even if I don't manage to get my harvest in on time, I'll at least save the seeds so I can do it all again next year. ~Lannie

I'll be the odd one out lol. This year I am only growing hybrids. For some reason I just can not get heirlooms to grow properly. They always do very poorly for me so this year I am just doing hybrids.

Heirlooms. Since monosanto is taking over everything, I want heirlooms that I can save.
