if i plant rhubarb does it need to be protected from animals?
I'd like to plant some in several different areas and let it grow wild. well with a little help when it needs it.
i seem to remember my grandma just walking down the driveway and cutting some for pie and jams. not sure.

The leaves are poisonous/irritating so I don't think animals bother it. When I had a big patch in WI, I never protected it and the patch just kept getting bigger each year.

that's what i thought, just wasn't too sure of the memory.
i figure i'll just keep them weeded and watered until they are strong enough to go it alone.

It won't grow here. We've tried 3 times cuz DH loves it. I don't think it gets cold enough down here.
