I don't have a top ten, but I think you should add basil to your list. Maybe oregano, too?

I like mint, but put it in a container! Fennel lemon thyme chives dill parsley ( put parsley in everything) I love herbs, and its something I can grow very well...unlike veggies.

some of those I don't use often. I am thinking of a few "healing herbs" as well.

OMG! Do you want my Top 100 list? (Actually, I think I only have 68... maybe less, I think some of them died.) First of all, what do you want them for mainly? Cooking? Medicine? Or both? For cooking, I couldn't be without rosemary, basil, sage, summer savory and dill. I have lots more, but those are my essentials. For medicinal herbs, there are so many to pick from, but a few of the basics would be comfrey, yarrow, dandelion, and thyme. Oh, the thyme could do double duty as a cooking and a medicinal herb. That's what I'd have if I could only grow a few and had limited space. I don't know if the thyme will overwinter where you are. Mine have been hanging on by their fingernails, but they're not thriving. The rosemary would have to be potted and brought in the house over the winter of course. How many is that? Oh, it's only 9. Oh, well. ~Lannie

I haven't fried dandelions, but I have used them in cooking. That's how I found out what a great diuretic the flowers are! You won't believe this, but I actually tried planting some dandelions here, because the native ones are so little and spindly. Too hot and dry, I guess. So I planted some seed I got from my sister back in the Valley, and guess what? ZERO sproutage! Who woulda thunk it? I put it in one of the garden beds thinking it would grow better if it got consistent water, but it was a no-go. I'm still not believing THAT! ~Lannie
