This is simple and taste so good!
1-3 medium baking potatoes Butter
Pick potatoes with fork Rub butter on each one Wrap tightly in foil Place in Crockpot for 3-5 hours or until done.
Then add sour cream, butter, bacon or what ever! I have been doing mine like this for a long time.

I've never tried that but I like soft skins on my baked potatoes so this should work great!

After you butter the potato, sprinkle it all around with sea salt. I really does make a difference in the way the potato tastes.
I don't know how it would work in a crock pot, but I'll give it a try.

I have both! ;D ;D I started using sea salt a few years ago and it really does add something to the flavor that plain boxed salt lacks!!

starfire, what a great idea!! What heat setting do you use?
If I go home and put them in at lunchtime, could I stretch the "baking" time to 6 hours if I use the Low setting?

Also, if you use a bit larger potatoes or ones that are more round than long-they take a little longer to cook!

I have the finer sea salt. But don't see why the coarse wouldn't work. I think[/u] I used kosher once, not real sure about that.
If you have ever eaten a baked potato at Red Lobster this is how they fix theirs. At least that is what the waitress told me, and when I fix them at home they taste the like RL's.

When I worked at one of my last banks, they did monthly potlucks. One of the most fun was the baked potato bar theme. Those with crockpots would bring the crockpot baked potatoes...others would bring toppings like sour cream, shredded cheese, or veggies. That was fun, and made for very easy clean-up. Deb ;D

You could accomodate all sorts of diets and tastes! And, of course, the meat eaters amongst us used to bring meat in crockpots, also...Taco meat, some type of seasoned hamburger-type meat or something. I guess I honestly never paid any attention to that. You know me. Deb

I made a spicy lentil and carrot Madras curry-that was great over baked potatoes! Of course it was also good over noodles, rice and all by itself. ;D

Crock pot baked potatoes are awesome. Just don't get all clever and think, "gee, I could peel and mash them and have mashed potatoes." Doesn't work so well. Too gooey.
