thank you for the recipe.
your recipe is more of a casserole. what my dad made was definitely pie like. but now that you mention doritos, i think thats what he used. your recipe should work if i could remember what he used for a pie shell. i now remember the doritos being at least the topping.

Dirty, I've never made Taco Pie but I looked it up and a lot of the recipes call for those boughten crescent rolls for the bottom crust.
Do you think your dad may have used those or even those boughten bisquits in a tube?
This whole thing sounds tasty, so I'm going to give it a try. ;D

I don't know if I have the recipe or not but will look for it after I get back from taking Tom to chemo - uses the corn meal tortillias for the pie shell.
Does that sound familiar?

TACO PIE
1 deep dish pie crust shell 1 pound ground chuck 1 medium onion, chopped 1 (1/4 ounce) package Old El Paso taco seasoning mix 1 (16 ounce) can El Paso refried beans 1 (8 ounce) jar Old El Paso taco sauce (divided usage) 2 cups (8 ounces) Cheddar cheese, shredded (divided usage) 12 Old El Paso tortilla chips, crushed Shredded lettuce Chopped tomato
Preheat oven and cookie sheet to 400 degrees. Thaw pie crust 10 minutes. Prick bottom and sides of crust thoroughly with fork. Bake pie shell on cookie sheet 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and reduce temperature to 350 degrees. In skillet, cook ground chuck and onion until meat is browned; drain off excess fat. Add taco seasoning mix to meat according to the package directions. In a small bowl, combine refried beans and 1/3 taco sauce; mix well. Layer half of refried beans mixture in bottom of pie crust. Top with half of seasoned meat, 1 cup Cheddar cheese and tortilla chips. Repeat layers, excluding tortilla chips. Bake on preheated cookie sheet 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven. Top with lettuce and tomato; add additional taco sauce to taste.
This has been in our family for years, I think it was my grandmother’s recipe.
