If plain frosting looks to ho-hum jazz it up with ingredients you have on hand. You can also do this to a store bought cake.
Tutti-frutti toppings: Sprinkle the cake with fresh or frozen strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit or cherries. Or drain a can of mandarin orange slices and arrange them on the base and on top.
Can-do candies: Gumdrops, jujubes and M&M’s brighten a dark chocolate background. Crushed candy bars are a fast and easy fixer upper.
Pantry Pride: Whole or chopped walnuts and pecans, dried cranberries, cherries, and dry apricots are nice.
Quick-as-a-wink decorations: Get out your sieve and sift confections’ sugar or cocoa powder. Add a touch of cinnamon can lend a wonderful perfume.
