This is a really nice, moist, chocolate cake for all you chocolate lovers.
CHOCOLATE CAKE
2 CUPS SUGAR 1 CUP CRISCO 2 eggs CREAM TOGETHER
2 CUPS FLOUR 3 TBSP COCOA 1/2 TSP SALT SIFT TOGETHER
ALTERNATE SUGAR MIXTURE WITH 1 CUP BUTTERMILK. STIR 2 TSP SODA INTO 1 CUP BOILING WATER. ADD TO MIXTURE. MIX. POUR INTO 9 X 13 PAN .BAKE AT 375 degrees FOR 30 MINUTES.
FROSTING
1 STICK OF BUTTER 3 TBSP COCOA 6 TBSP MILK Stir constantly BRING TO A BOIL
ADD 1 BOX SIFTED POWDERED SUGAR 1 1/2 CUP CHOPPED PECANS

a little help here please. here i sit, all my ingredients gathered close. the taste of chocolate cake sauntering through my mind. and i don't get the instructions. what do you mean by "alternate" sugar mixture with 1 cup buttermilk" please hurry.

You mix the sugar/crisco/eggs with buttermilk Mix soda into boiling water...then add small amounts of each to your flour/cocoa mixture and mix well with each addition Then Pour into your pan.

Alternate ingredients means some of the dry then some of the wet. Do this; pour in a little of the sugar mixture, mix a little then pour in some of the buttermilk,mix a little & keep doing that back and forth till you've used up all of the sugar mix and buttermilk. I usually pour in about 1/3 at a time. hope that helps.

thanks, thats what i thought. but i made the mistake of looking up 'alternate ' in the dictionary. one of the definitions was - a substitute. one cake on the way .
