And even though sometimes I wanted to whack her upside the head with a two-by-four, I really miss that little pest. Her ball is lying out in the corral with nobody to play with it. The scrub brush for the trough is hanging where it belongs instead of being out in the dirt somewhere because it was Breezy's second favorite toy. The fence wires are all nice and straight instead of being bent out of shape from Breezy pushing and pulling on them. The gate is securely latched because Breezy isn't here to play with it and try to get it open. (This is why we have backup safety chains on the gates.) Wind got to eat her entire lunch today, from the dish, not from the ground because Breezy wasn't here to dump it over and play with the dish, which was her third favorite toy. Sigh... Things might be going back to normal around here now, but I think it will be rather boring without the little mischief maker here making mischief. So long, Little Breeze. I wish you a long and happy life. ~Lannie

ah Lannie.....is really hard not to get attached to them....even when they make life interesting. So, have you ridden the new mare?

Ahh Lannie, I'm sorry it's hurting right now. I noticed you had gotten attached which shows what a good heart you've got but I figured it might make saying goodbye hard. You will carry the memory of that little brush stealer with you and you have her mom to keep you busy. Maybe one day you'll have another foal from Breeze and that one gets to stay! How's the mare doing without her filly? (((((((((Hugs))))))))))

Nah, we haven't ridden her yet because right now her udder is so full, she's walking bow-legged. I feel like I should milk her to release the pressure, but I know I shouldn't because that will just prolong the drying-out period. So I'm just watching it and massaging it a little. I don't know if it helps, but she seems to like it. I have a vet book that says it will take about a week for her to dry up. It's going to be a long week.
She's more settled today than she was yesterday. She was calling for Breezy most of the afternoon and part of the night last night, but this morning, she's quiet. She's spending a lot of time by the gate, though, probably because that's how Breezy left the corral (how original, to use the gate instead of squeezing between the wires! LOL!). I think she's waiting for her to come back.
Didn't hurt her appetite any, though. She mobbed me this morning when I brought her breakfast (pellets and sunflower seeds) and now she's out grazing, so she'll be OK in a day or so.
It's just WAAAAY too quiet out there without Breezy racing around and whinnying and causing trouble. The nice thing is that now that Breezy is gone, Wind is much more huggable. She walks up and asks for pets now. Or maybe she's just asking me to bring her baby back. Anyway, she's a sweet horse, and we'll get through this.
Rich is really down about it, too. He loved that baby. We can't breed Wind again because she's had a lot of trouble the last few foals and with Breezy, they said they were worried she wouldn't be able to get up. I guess it took 5 people to get her on her feet after that birth. Their vet advised against breeding her again because it might kill her, so she'll just retire here and have a nice easy life of being ridden occasionally and herding cattle a few times a year.
