I love hogs! lol
Do you have to take them to a butcher, or does the butcher come to you? When we have ours done, the butcher backs the truck up and does the whole thing right here and then takes the meat to be done back to his place. Makes it so much nicer....I have heard horror stories of people who had to load their hogs up and deliver them to the butcher. I know our hogs are always impossible to move at butchering age, lol.
Oops, forgot to say...the hogs look great. Nice and solid body. I haven't seen those type of pigs. They remind me body wise of the yorkshires we get.

Yep! I'm DEFINATLY a carnivor!! And can't wait to see these two on a plate! They will be slaughtered at the barn and taken to the butchershop for cutting/packaging. I think it's nice to do it that way, they are much calmer when they "pass on" then when I used to load them.. (I should say TRY to load them... these are the first hogs I have ever had make it to the butcher without me having shot them... *innocent smile*) Kaza[/size]

Well, did you get your pork back yet?? By now the bacon and hams should be ready too! How was it having your first home raised pork chops again?? Do you render out the lard? Nothing like lard for pie crust.

Wendy, that's great -I'm sure you'll all enjoy some tasty homegrown meat. It tastes so much different than the stuff in the stores. Good Luck on the loading-that was always my hardest part.

Sorry Kathy, I have been extremely busy as of late. Yes, have the meat back and it's SOOOOO yummy having home raised meat again!! The butcher was very impressed with them as well, which made me proud. Kaza

Isn't it cool when the butcher says something about the meat? lol It does make you feel proud of how you raise animals. Enjoy your pork!! I can almost smell the bacon over here in Oregon, lol. Hmmm, Blt's for dinner sound about right to me.
