Aww, Terri I'm the same way. When I shipped pigs, goats or cattle that I'd raised for months-I always cried.
I guess that's not a good quality in a homesteader but I think it just means we've got soft hearts.
Have a good cry then remember he had a good life with you and this is all a part of the Circle of Life.
(((((hugs))))

If they were mean aggressive animals, I had no problem eating them. However, I could never butcher them myself...even when I was young and everyone else did not mind working on making dinner smaller portions. I to the aggressive ones to a nice clean slaughter house and they came back to me in these nice neat white packages.
The nice ones however,, nope I could not eat them. Luckly this did not happen too often. Always had buyers for gentle pet sheep for a handspinners flock.

Well, he gave us 400 lbs of meat I had no problem eating him last night as beef stew. However, I don't want to see his head mounted on a car. BTW he was getting mean and bossy.

I have no problem eating animals ( I don't know what that says about me, lol) Enjoy your freezer full...400 lbs is a lot!
Btw, do people really put those long horns on their cadillacs like they show in the movies?

I saw the longhorns on Caddies when I lived in Amarillo. ;D I had a Ford Escort at the time-I wanted to put a pair on the hood of that little car. Once the meat comes back-then I'm ok-it's the shipping/actual buthering that bothers me. I used to hunt & trap as a kid but over the years I've turned into a big mush puddle.
