My halflinger is scratching both of his legs below his knee. Any ideas of what we could put on his legs to relieve the itching?

I don't know about on horses but I get this red spray called Old Hickory Chigger & Insect Bite Relief that works well on me when I get bit up. It comes from Andalusia, AL mfg by Old Hickory Medicine Co. My mother used to use ammonia on insect bites but humans don't have a thick coat of hair so I doubt if that would work on horses. I'm sorry Momo, other than the Old Hickory spray, I have no real life experiences since I've never had a horse. I did find this product; I don't know if the itching is due to flies or insects but this might be an option. Swat Fly Ointment

I'd say chiggers or ticks... If there's a swampy area where he's pastured, check for leach bites.
Sometimes washing with cold water will help relieve it for a few minutes... at least enough that you can take a looksie...

He's not near any wet ground. We are in a drought.
It does sound like chiggers. We water him down every day to cool him off in this heat. He won't let you look though. He is a hyper fella!

We looked everywhere for Old Hickory products, anti-itch spray or chigger meds. No luck. In desperation we tried an anti-fungal spray we saw at Tractor Supply. It is working. Norman is itching alot less!

Momo, I got the Old Hickory at the local Amish Store in KY. I don't have an Amish store here but I am going to the holistic and bulk foods store in the next few days, I'll check and see if they carry it-just in case you need it later on. I'm glad Norman is feeling some relief. ;D That itching is rough on animals. My dogs are having itching problems with fleas although they're both on Frontline Plus. I even doused them with Diatomaceous Earth and that's not helping either. I don't know if the weather is the culprit or if the Frontline is a new formulation that's not working.
