Does anyone else have Dexters? We are getting 2 of them soon. One is coming in a couple of weeks. Her name is Bossy & she is due to calve in March. The other one we are getting in October. She is due in February.

I've never owned them but I've seen them on farms in the area. They are handsome cattle; sort of like shorter, stocky Angus. Are you going to milk them? I think they're a dual purpose breed aren't they? Good Luck, you'll have new babies in just a few months! You're really getting this self sufficiency thing down to an art!!

I hope to train them to milk. Our oldest, Tommy, has really bad eyesight. He won't be able to get his license. We told him since he can't spend his money on a car, he can get a cow. He has wanted one forever. So one will be his.

I've been wanting Dexters but the timing is not right. They are really sweet and docile. They are also just the right size of beef for a small family. I think you'll enjoy yours. As far as milk goes, I have heard they are quite efficient producers when you consider their size.

Mine is more curious than George. If I'm outside farting around, she's always watching me, just to see what I'm up to, or if I have something for her to eat. Then, most of the time she wanders off until she's bored again to come for another look. My original plan was to hitch her up to a small wagon for historical reenactments but I never completed her training. Still, I do hook her up every now and then and we walk the pasture. (I think she likes it.) ...most of the time. She's due to calf any day now I'm guessing but her milk has not dropped yet.
Dexter's are good homesteading cows

I like them because they're not huge; I'm only 5'2 so I don't want a cow that's almost as tall as me at the shoulders.

Busy, busy here Kathy. My Dexter hasn't had her baby yet. Should go in a few weeks. She is sure fat! I am bottle feeding 10 goat kids & 2 baby lambs. It seems there is never enough time to get on-line & post much. I try to check in as often as I can. I'll try to post some pictures when I get the time.
