After six years I finally sold off all of my RIRs. Well all of them except 12 so I will have enough eggs until the newbies start laying. On Monday morning I will be the proud owner of 50 Light Brahmas, 50 Black Giants, 25 Silver Polish, and 25 Red Pyle Games. ;D ;D ;D In a few months I think I will sell the Palms, Bourbons, and Khakis in exchange for BB Bronze turkies and Runner Ducks. Change can be a good thing sometimes.

Good for you! I still have a few Reds that I can't seem to part with, they are a ugly as all get out, but they sure know how to lay eggs! I'm jealous about your Brahmas, I have one and finding a boyfriend for her is like looking for a needle in a haystack around here! Black Giants will keep you in eggs, I've had some of them, if I had room, I'd be getting more. They are really nice birds!!!

Ahhh painteddaisy I know how you mean about finding birds. I had to order these from a hatchery because everything here is RED. RIR, Production Red, Red Star, NH Red......................Sigh. Everyday there has been a sea of red out in the lot but there is one little Black Giant hen I kept from my first batch of chickens that is the sweetest little thing. She doesn't lay too much anymore but she is a pet and at least now she will have some friends that look like her lol. TY, Kathy. Yup, lots of changes this year but rather than pigs and cows taking over it's goats and birds lol. The birds run the show but I try not to let them know that lol.

Too bad you aren't closer to me! I'd take those Palms! I've wanted some for ages... The one I had last year committed suicide. The BB Whites were Thanksgiving and Christmas.... Christmas is still in teh freezer cause I can't fit him in the oven....

Cricket, I know what you mean about not being able to fit the bird in the oven! I bought 2 Turkeys from my boss in the fall and the smallest they had were 16 and 17 lbs! The chickens they had were the size of turkeys I would normally by from the store! There is NO WAY we could eat a "normal" sized bird from them! So at least I know now that when I grow my own turkeys, not to let them get too big!
I saw 2 Royal Palms at auction last weekend, they sold for an arm and a leg! I stopped listening to the auctioneer when he got to $75. I think they went for close to $100 (pair).
I didn't see any bronze, Saw lots at the auctions last fall, and Gee! I wish I had snagged a couple! They were going for really good prices! I guess that's the best time to get the deals. I'll have to remember to save my pennies for the fall auctions.
