I swear I'm going to poison that darn dog. Went out to do some chores in the barn and another hen is gone! I know it's that stupid beagle too. I also found dog poop INSIDE my coop!!! No banties missing there except one new silkie/polish cross. Can you believe this? I can't afford to go and get a gun right now...and I don't ever see the little bugger. So I'm seriously considering poisoning it. Someone talk me out of it....

and we would do that because? Ok, do you have any extra chicken wire? Can you hook it onto the outside bottom of the fence surrounding the coop and lay it out flat on the ground, then partially bury it with some dirt? When the dog tries to enter he can't because he keeps hitting his claws on the wire and he will try to enter somewhere else. No chicken wire? Cut some coathangers in half next to the hanger section (remove the hanger part) so you have 2 pieces of U shaped wire. Shove those down around the outside of the pen, hooking in through the chicken wire. If you know where he is going in, that would be where to start.

What about a live trap? Some dog pounds will loan them to people to capture rogue animals. If you catch him, do the ether thing.

I can't/wont advocate poisoning since your animals or non- rogue animals including deer/rabbits/squirrels might get into the poison. I am behind you on getting the beagle gone though. I am assuming this isn't your dog but a stray or neighbors dog. I like the live trap idea, if a gun is out of the range of possibilities. Or do you have a good friend with a gun who would either loan you the gun or come for a 'visit' to help you protect your poultry? Roaming dogs are so destructive on poultry and usually their owners have a hard time believing little Fluffy would be a killer.
