What is every ones favorite Poultry breed and why?
Mine is Belgium D'Uccles... Small, non flighty, gentle,, even the Roos... great foragers and bug eaters...lays really nice tasting wee eggs.
I do not have room for big ones right now. But I used to have. Salmon Faverolles.... nice big Hen, super gentle, and very quiet. Lays as many eggs as the production breeds. Good foragers. Some lines are better in the egg production than others.

Standard Cochins for me! The roos are very gentle and I have never had one attack me. They lay huge eggs and are great mamas.

All things Polish hehe. Especially Silver Laced and Golden. They're small/med sized, ok layers of white eggs, very quite and gentle (I've never had a bad experience with one anyway). They don't set but they are nice eye candy. Eye candy aside I will go with Black Giants, Brahmas, and Cuckoo Marans (sp?). They are large, tastey, and I think their whole life's mission is to lay. The Giants have a special place though because every one that I have had has been just plain sweet.

I guess today it would be the light standard Brahma. Used to be Jersey Giants (they are amazing birds) but I don't have any right now....someday I'll get more. I have Cochins, they are really nice. Just not sure if I'm crazy about the feathered feet (with the Brahma too, winter and mud and all) I have a broody hen who is playing "musical nest boxes" right now - driving me CRAZY!

Ones with feathers, beaks, and they cluck...those are my requirements. I adore them all and wish I could have at least 2 of every breed. ;D

I don't have any white Cochins. The blues are my favorite, I have a few of them and then I have blacks that carry the gene. The feathersa are what I love best about them. They have such fuzzy fluffy butts when they are bent over eating and I imagine the girls are wearing pettycoats and pantaloons.
