This might be a strange question... and I think I might have figured it out, but I wanted to know if anyone else's chickens like to peck their legs. Mine are 9 weeks old now, and they go after my shoelaces (duh), any grass seeds on my socks, my ring if I'm wearing it -- all those things are understandable. But then one or more of them will stab me in the shin or the lower calf and I can't figure out why. Then this morning, while I was out sitting with them and they started doing it again, I had a lightbulb moment. Could it be the FRECKLES? I have dark freckles all over me, but the only part they can reach is my lower legs. Do you think they maybe think they're bugs or something? So, if anyone else's chickens do this, do you have freckles on your legs, too? Is there anyone out there with leg-pecking chickens who DOESN'T have freckles? I must not have enough to do, to be sitting around wondering about this! Maybe I should schedule myself some additional tasks! NOT! LOL! Anyway, I was just curious whether it might be the freckles they're going after. Rich is now calling them my Flock of Friendly Freckle-Peckers. Try saying THAT three times fast! ~Lannie

Oh yes, they would peck at our pants,, lint on pants, hair, socks, try to stick their beaks in our shoes...what it ever it was, they had to try to sample it. ;D They are just thinking your freckles must be something good to eat.

Freckle peckers, that's funny!!! Yes, they like freckles. I don't often go out into the runs with shorts on tho' (bugs) so I always wear my jeans, but then again, I don't have freckles on my legs either.

Turkeys are worse, they can reach higher up your legs and they don't take "no" for an answer.

Then I'm glad I didn't get turkeys! This morning I could swear one of them drew blood! There wasn't any, but it sure FELT like there should be. I just took them some milk a while ago, and I thought they were going to take a milk bath! At least it got their attention away from my legs! They are so funny, running around with their little heads down and their big clown feet flapping out in front of them! I'm so glad I got them. I know now that I will never be without at least a few of these crazy birds. What characters they are! ~Lannie
