And nobody saw it! I was just out chillin' with my girls when the coolest thing happened. I usually pick one up when I go out there, so they get used to being handled, and even though I've never dropped one or hurt one in any way, of course they scream like they're being skinned alive when I pick them up. But today, I was sitting on the step in front of the coop, and two hopped up on the step on one side of me, and another one hopped up on the other side of me, and they settled down and fluffed and preened their feathers. I was really thinking this was pretty neat that they were feeling so relaxed around me now, when all of a sudden a fourth one flapped up from the ground in front of me and landed on my knee! I was dumbfounded! She immediately perched on my arm, settled down and started preening. I couldn't believe I was surrounded by chickens (of course the rest were still trying to untie my shoes), and Rich was in the shop and I couldn't make him hear me. Left his freakin' hearing aid in the house again. So he missed the moment. I guess it wouldn't really have meant as much to him as it did to me, anyway. I just felt so SPECIAL! LOL! I guess I'm really going to be a chicken-lady now. I have at least one really close chicken-friend. ;D ~Lannie Here's a pic of one of Lannies Chickies being a sweetheart! ;D

Lannie, that is so neat! ;D It sounds like you've been totally accepted as one of the flock! I can picture it even without the photo. So you're girls like to untie shoes huh? Mine used to like to peck at the stitching on my moccasins. I think they thought the darker stitches were worms or something.

heehee...mine do it too. I also have geese that hate my red shorts, and if I am outside in them they come over and bite them. Doesn't hurt but it's like they are trying to pull them off me and kill it . Dh has been really good about keeping the chickens penned while my grass is established, but before I planted grass we had one chicken that would fly at us when we opened the front door. For awhile we thought the silly hen was trying to get us but we figured out if we stood still instead of running back into the house the hen would land on our shoulder. She liked to peck our hair.

Thanks for the tip about the red shorts - I'll remember that if I ever get geese! ;D This morning she did it again. At least I think it was the same one. Flapped right up and plopped down in my lap. I just think that's so cool. I love birds (any kind), and these are the first ones I've ever had that were mine. One place I worked had a big Cockatoo that was in love with me and wanted me to marry him (long, funny story for another time), and I really liked having him around, but these are my first very-own personal birds. Also this morning, one of the bigger ones hopped up on the step next to me with an ant in her beak (still struggling weakly) and I was afraid she wanted me to have it. Chickens don't bring presents, do they? Gosh, most of the time they're so busy trying to cram anything and everything into their gullets, I was surprised this one was just sitting there holding that ant and giving me the sideways-eye. She finally took her ant and hopped down, much to my relief. I just hope I haven't offended her! ~Lannie

I love it when my chickens do stuff like that too! But I haven't had the opportunity to spend much time out there with them because we've had so much rain and no matter how much "mucking out" I do, the runs are still just yukky, stinky, slurry like messes. Most unpleasant! I can't wait until it dries up! I'll often go out and sit with them once a day. They are really very theraputic aren't they?!

What happened to Sparky's post about the geese and the red shorts? ~Lannie

What happened to Sparky's post about the geese and the red shorts? ~Lannie That's weird, I went to the security log and can't find any action taken on any posts of sparky's. If there's a modify, delete or move done either by the original poster or one of the mods/admins-it shows up and there's nothing. I went back to 5pm yesterday afternoon. When was the last time you saw it on here?

I guess the last time I saw it was when I posted the reply to it. Didn't really pay attention, but when I came back here today after I saw you'd posted the picture, I saw my comment thanking her for the tip on the red shorts, and realized there was no post about geese and red shorts anymore!
I don't think she's upset or anything, to have deleted any of her posts (are you, Sparky?).
It's no big deal, I just noticed it was gone and wondered what happened. Maybe it was a glitch in the programming or something? Dunno.

If she would have deleted a post-it would have shown up on the log-that's the weird part. I'm going to go check from a different spot-now I'm on the hunt for the wayward post!
