I have to brag on my boys a little. I think they're so handsome! This is Odin, at 18 weeks old: And Zeus (no he doesn't have 3 legs - there's a smaller hen behind him). He was bobbing his head and the picture blurred... And a couple of the girls: I can't wait to start finding eggs, but I'll tell you, at this point, these guys have all become such pets, that I'd still keep them if they never laid a single egg! Just listening to the boys crowing in tandem, or having one of the girls jump up on my lap and talk to me is worth everything! This morning, while I was out having coffee sitting on the step in front of the coop door, Zeus hopped up and settled down right beside me. He even let me pet him without complaining too much. What a great moment. ;D ~Lannie

Lannie, those are beautiful chickens! I know what you mean; who could resist having critter friends like those even if they didn't produce? ;D You must have spent a lot of time with them as babies for them to be so tame while they're still so young. Your good loving care shows; they look very happy.

Kathy, will they get TAMER? Wow! I have one already (one of the hens) that comes and asks to be picked up and petted. Just that one, though. The other ones will let me pick them up (even the roosters), but that one actually comes over and asks for pets. She's my favorite, of course. I just wish I could tell them apart. A couple of them have distinguishing characteristics, like Mrs. Conhead (she has feathers that stick up on the top of her head), and the littlest one is almost pure white on her back. My favorite one has a poop stain on her back, so I've been calling her a not-so-nice name. But other than that poop stain, she looks just like 5 or 6 others. Argh... maybe I'll try teaching her a name before she loses her "mark" and she'll come when I call her? Zeus I think recognizes his name, either that or he's just got to have his nose in everybody's business, but every time I call him he comes over to eyeball me. Is it bad to pick up the roosters? I've heard it's bad, and I've heard if you don't they'll get pushy. I'm not sure how I should be handling my boys, but I sure don't want them to get pushy. Anybody know? ~Lannie
