Kathy...I've ordered from Cackle Hatchery ...I think that they are in MO...and I was very pleased! I have also ordered from the huge Murrey Mcmurrey? whatever that one is called...and was happy with the health of the birds...but not the sex! I ordered 4 polish crested...2 pullets and 2 roos and ended up with 4 roos....Of the other ones in the order....they are pullets.....cept for one I am not quite sure about ! LOL! Ya' know the old saying.....whistling women and crowing hens...something or other...come to bad ends....unless of course they belong to me....which in that case they will live a long comfortable life! LOLOLOL!

So how many are you going to order? i don't know. i have ordered 10 guineas already, from a local person that raises them. i should get the chicks around the 1st of May. rather not have more than twenty total birds. however i may raise a few meat birds over and above that. if i can't find chicks locally. i may just order a straight run of 25. and freeze the roos. how is that for a straight answer

Murrey McMurrey DOES have some very healthy chicks....maybe my polish crested just had some sexual identity problems! LOL! I only have two roos left out of the 4....the neighbor's dogs were quite brutal with my flock!!!! I am down to 20 all together. 20 is a good number to have....not too many and not too few! I will probably set some more eggs when we move. I want another roo though.....maybe borrow my friend's aracauna!

I like Murry McMurry... and Dirty... guineas are LOUD!!!!! are you raising them as meat birds? well this being my first try at birds in the woods. i figure i'll probably lose a few to critters. maybe a few wander off. after that i'll eat the loudest ones first. a big part of the motivation is ticks. i hear that there is no equal to the guinea. when it comes to eating ticks. i want to see it for my self. last year the ticks here where horrible. i'll take the noise if they'll eat the ticks. hopefully i'll end up with a couple of good ones after it all settles out.

Well I just attempted to order my chicks online at McMurray. After spending a long time, I finally got close to being finished only to have them tell me that 7 of the 8 different breeds I ordered would not be available until June 30th!
