One of our cats (we have 3) the eldest, has developed a poopy problem. shes ten, and the queen of the animal kingdom around here. She hates our youngest, a 25 lb Maine Coon. The two of them argue and fuss now and again.
For the last couple of months, shes taken to pooping outside the box, even when its clean. Sometimes the male does it as well, leading us to believe theres some kind of dominance game going on.
Shes the worst about it though. So what do we do? She's old, but still in relatively good health. I don't want to get rid of her, because the pound would probably put her to sleep.

How old are the other cats? Were they all raised together or is there a new one in the bunch?
Sounds like what you said there is a dominance thing going on there.
Maybe one don't like it because the other's is using the same litter box? Do you have one or two littler boxes?

Blade, has this started since Alyssa was born? Some cats have jealousy issues! If she feels that she's not getting the attention she deserves she will punish you. We had one that decided to pee on the bed when we moved and were too busy to be her personal servants 24/7. Once things settled down and she was the focus of our attention; she went back to her fastidious ways! The other thing is have you tried the covered cat boxes? Maybe there's a scent that overshot the cat box and being older, maybe she's confused as to where it's ok to go. With the covered boxes-every scent, solid and fluid is enclosed. That's what I've got and boy is the cleanup and mess so much easier to deal with now-no more tossed cat litter to vacuum up. Maybe having more than one cat box would be worth a try.

These cats have all been together for 5 years now. It was happening off and on before the baby, but has gotten wrose of late. I don't think its jealousy, because she's never really been much of a lap cat. She is however, quite the female dog when she wants to be.
We just started a new litter box, actually its a 3' tupperwear tub. we'll see if that works.
