If you start when your dog is a puppy handling it’s feet regular it makes trimming nails easier.
Most dogs don’t like their feet touched. I started holding my dog’s feet when she was a puppy.
At first she would jerk it away but I would get it again and again until she would let me hold it. Now she is 8 years old sometimes she hands me her paw to hold.
Do you trim your pets nails?

DH and I each have a cat. Both are indoors and have been declawed in the front. (I know there are people passionate about the subject of declawing but we felt it was best for our situation.) Anyway, we've trimmed their back nails regularly since they were kittens. My cat screams like she's going to kill you but lays still. His cat makes cute little chirp noises but squirms around like an octopus. /VM

We trim our indoor cats nails regularly. We have one of those body bags with zippers that open to trim the front nails and the back ones. If they see the bag, they head for the nearest hidey place. Tippy, the old cat, is just paraniod about it. Once, he actually got himself under the freezer, trying to hide. He sometimes hisses and howls "Owe". Brat just lets us to it without a fuss.

I've never seen the body bag thing, Ardie! That sounds like a great idea, especially since I'm afraid DH's cat is going to lose a toe one of these days.
How can something that weighs 7 pounds manage to squirm around so much that two adults can't keep her still long enough to nip off the end of a toenail???
DH and my cat do not get along well, though, so I foresee her spending more time than necessary in the body bag when I'm not around...

Oh yah. All I can say is, I hate black toenails ! I know if some one video taped us, doing toenails, we would win some sort of prize. If for nothing else, some of the positions we get in while trimming toe nails. Not my favorite thing to do, but something we usually do about once a month to every two months. Digging does help keep toenails down. I really like those hard core digging dogs, come toenail trim time.

Mine has 1 black toenail! I barley trim that one.
I put mine on top of her crate and put it in front of the front door to have plenty of good light. I bet the neighbors wonder what I am doing sometimes, I am sure it is a site to see if no one know what you are doing.
I trim hers then I file them so she won't scratch me. LOL My dad thought this was so funny when he seen me do this one time. But she just lays there like she is getting a manicure. LOL
