I think I got a flea off my dog this AM. I always put Frontline on her Feb-Nov. but Dec and Jan are usually to cold for fleas. Since we haven't had much of a winter guess they are coming out early. So I will be going to the vet to get some Frontline Monday for sure! Well, come to think of it, Feb. is knocking at the door.

I read on another forum that someones dogs are bringing in ticks! And they're not in a normally warm winter area! I wonder what the bug population will be like this summer!

I have a solid white dog I am glad because I can see fleas and ticks real good. I check her just about every night. I don't want those things in my house. She is an inside dog but loves to go outside.

When we lived in San Jose,CA, we had fleas in the house-what an ordeal and the worst part was we didn't have any pets! Out there sand fleas were everywhere and they'd hitch a ride in on pant legs & shoes. All it took to get them was to walk across the yard. They bit too, Tom still has scars(he scars easily) from those danged flea bites. They pretty much left me alone-I think it was all the hot peppers I ate!

I got a flea bite on my arm yesterday. You should have seen the look on my face! LOL! I haven't noticed any of the animals scratching, but I've recently begun petting our wild kitty, and maybe he has fleas that never died because it didn't get cold enough, I dunno. But it was definitely a flea bite.
I shudder to think what the bug population is going to be like this summer, especially the fleas, ticks and mosquitos. They've been bad the two previous summers we've lived here, and we had really cold winters preceding them. This winter has barely been below freezing (except for a week or two of subzero). Today it's 60 degrees and sunny. In January. Go figure.

We were organic auntie so the sprays on the ok list didn't do much for fleas. Those little buggers are quite the survivors!

The last time, probably just a few wks. ago when I had little Kitty Cat to the vet for her booster shots, I was surprised when my vet insisted on putting one of those little pkts. of rub in their neck fur stuff. I said, no it's winter. No fleas, yet she loves to hang around back by my back step and yard when am I working outside on nice days. I see outdoor stays hunting my property most every day. He said because of the unusually mild winter the fleas were already out and about. So I let them do it. It's only Jan., though, yet today it was 55 degrees. Deb

The vets in Memphis or at least the one I use suggests using Frontline as well as the heartworm meds year round because our winters are relatively mild. But this year is even more mild than normal. I've been told that Feb can get brutal with lower temps and ice storms so maybe that burst of bad weather will kill off some of those nasty pests.

This may sound crazy but my grandfather and my dad did it so daddy told me to do it. When I got my dog 8 years ago I started putting cedar shavings all over the back yard. I may see 1 or 2 fleas on her a year. I also use the Frontline. So I do the combinition of the two. What ever works. ;D
