Both these dogs were dumped as puppies by some jerk that thinks living creatures are disposable. They made it past the coyotes to us. Smoky was all feet and those were scraped so bad it looked like someone had shaved the pads. Someone tossed him out of a moving vehicle to cause such damage. He was intelligent, friendly and answered to 'kitty, kitty, kitty'. DH built him a well insulated dog house situated on the lean-to porch of the shed. He has a fence around the area and the only time the dogs are allowed out is if we are there. We don't want them roaming with the neighbors pack and getting shot by the beef farmers. Sugar showed up one cold fall day (now that I think about it, what is it with these people - they throw them away in late fall (for cats it is usually right before Christmas). After approval by the cats, I introduced her to Smoky. He was ecstatic! So I put them both in the pen and waited for DH to come home. DH came in the house asking "What is THAT?" and I tried to play innocent. Walked out to the dog pen, let them out and petted on her, tried to convince him that she must have been hiding in the pen the night before when he put Smoky up. I almost had him, but I grinned at the wrong time. Anyway, we kept her and they have all gotten along fine.

They're very blessed critters to have crossed paths with you. They are soooo cute too.
Not to make excuses, there is never an excuse to dump a critter, but the rescues are bursting at the seems and the most humain sociieties ask for ID and money making people feel arkward. So some feel without an option. Not at all an excuse. Sad situation. One day if I have the land and space I would love to do some sort of pet rescue. 5 of my 7 are rescues.

What happy looking pups! ;D I think they both know they lucked out when they found your home! I don't understand how someone could toss a dog out of a moving vehicle and still sleep at night. I'm glad you had such a kind heart-these guys sure look like they're enjoying the good life now!

What beautiful babies!
Do they mess with your birds at all? (Like running them or barking at them.)
Isn't it amazing how dogs seem to pick their people? It's like they can somehow recognize a kind heart.

No, they are pretty good about leaving the birds alone - now. When they were pups they had to learn not to run up and down the fence. The birds usually ignore them these days, but sometimes if they walk too close to the fence the birds run at them and hiss. It has not been a problem.
