Hey, I'm starting to get good at this! LOL!
The mystery:
Our big brave Dobie, Shogie, acts like a quivering ninny when I have the air-cleaner on. We got one of those Oreck ones that does all the cool stuff. Anyway, now that winter is upon us, and the house is closed up all the time, I've started running it again. Shogie immediately started shaking and quivering and running around looking for a place to hide. If I let him out to potty, he wouldn't come back in (I had to go out and GET him). He did this all last winter, too, and it drove me absolutely crazy the whole time. I just could NOT figure out what was wrong. The air-cleaner is very quiet, in fact you can hardly hear it unless you're standing right next to it, and the only time it makes a noise is when a cat hair gets sucked in, then it makes a snapping noise, which just about makes Shogie pee himself in fright.
We've been over this and over this trying to figure it out, then the other day it finally hit me. I was watching him shaking and shivering and trying to climb up onto my head, and I said to Rich, "He acts just like he does when there's a thunderstorm." (Some of you might remember me telling you we got hit by lightning two summers ago and most of the stuff in the house got fried, plus a light fixture in the kitchen exploded.) That's when it finally hit me! There's a negative ion emitter on the air-cleaner. To make you feel better, you know? Negative ions are the good ones.
Well, it just so happens that thunderstorms make a lot of negative ions as well, and apparently, Shogie not only senses them, but smells them. I forgot his nose is 10,000 times better than mine! LOL! So I went over and flipped the ion generator to "off" and he's fine now.
This is so cool! Now I can have filtered air WITHOUT having a quivering 120-pound dog on my head!
