A few years ago my mom started including our pets on her christmas buying list. Now you have to understand my mom...the last couple dogs she has owned are small enough to warrant her buying a big purse and carrying them around. She swears that she started the trend, not Paris Hilton! Anywho, so at christmas time we get a stocking with our pet's names on it filled to the brim with bones, chew toys, new collars, ect. I in turn usually get something for her precious Bobby Jo (yeah, that was sarcastic because I tease her that I am jealous of her dog...I'm NOT...really! lol) I have just never thought of buying presents for the pets. Sure I get them treats, and if I remember their bdays they might get a special treat like a peanut butter sandwich, or a piece of bacon. Just never thought of gifts the way my mom does.

I always did. I have already bought a really cute red stocking with little dog paw prints all over it. I just have to stencil Lucky's name on it. I've even send out cards from my dog/pets to my friends pets. This year so far I gotten some new tennis balls, a pack of pig ears and some pork hide knots to put in the stocking. I don't give him the beef rawhides; the vets warn about them getting obstructed from the rawhide. She always recommended the pig ears and pork chewies instead. Of course, being my dog he knows "Pork Fat Rules". ;D

Okay, I admit the cards to other pets is cute, lol. Maybe this is not such an odd thing to happen. I know my kids really think it's neat when Mom remembers the dogs. Must just be me who thinks it's odd, although I do appreciate the fact mom goes out of her way to buy them things.
We don't do rawhides either. Use too, but one of our dogs got it stuck on the roof of their mouth and was going crazy. We were home when it happened thankfully.

I wonder if to some extent, it's the single folks or those who's kids have gotten past the excitement & 'what did you get me stage' who are more into buying for the pets? When you're busy raising your family, there's less time to do the whole goofy pet holiday but once you've got extra time and usually money-it's fun to spoil the furkids too! See, I look at Lucky as just a very hairy, little person!

That might be Kathy, never thought of that before. I know that is why I tease my mom because she was never what I call "goo goo" over dogs when I was growing up. She loved them, but didn't carry them in her purse. I even catch myself seeing something cute for the dogs, but don't buy it because I know the kids need this or that.
Uh oh, you know what this means? I'm going to turn into my Mother! The horror! lol Nah, my mom is cool, and I probably will do the same thing since I know it entertains the grandkids. :-)

My mum always buys for my cat and now DH's cat so we reciprocate. SIL also buys for the cats so we buy for their dogs.
