I just came on board as a new member a few days ago and have spent most of my time cruising the various offerings of this site. I thought that since I might occasionally post about our dogs and cat I should sort of 'introduce' them:
Pepper is a mix of who-knows-what, long-haired, black with some brown on his face and a white underbelly. Might have a bit of Border Collie in him? About 65 - 70 lbs. Got him as a stray pup. He was the most flea-infested thing I've ever seen! His flea-killing bath water looked like a whole shaker of pepper had been emptied in it with all the dead fleas floating! Hence the name. About 10 now with a very sweet personality, initially shy with strangers. Deathly afraid of the lawn mower and vacuum.
Bachelor is a Schnauzer/Terrier mix. He looks purely Schnauzer, but a bit larger, sort of a Schnauzer on steroids. About 25 - 30 lbs. When Toad (daughter) was in college she called one night and scared us to death. In the middle of the conversation she suddenly got quiet, then said, "Mom? Dad? I have to tell you something and you're not going to like it." Well, if you don't know what we were expecting, you won't understand how relieved we were when she told us she'd adopted this dog from the Humane Society. Over time we wound up with him (I'll post THAT story another time). He's about 4, and is all ATTITUDE! He isn't afraid of anything. He once attacked, and took down, #1 son's 180 lb. Newfoundland (another story). He has to be on a leash when he goes for his 'nature walks' because he's a roamer and out here the coyotes would get him the first night out. He seems fairly smart, but he usually keeps it well-hidden if ya know what I mean. He's really changed my attitude toward small dogs. Guess I just never gave them a chance before, but I like them now.
Oscar is a stray cat who adopted us. Actually Toad was living with us for about six months after graduating from college and over my objections and threats of bodily harm, she FED him!! Now Toad's gone, but the cat's still here! She did pay to have him 'fixed', though. He's a good cat, but he's a bit low on the 'smarts' scale, even by cat standards (ducking from the cat people). On the other hand, we haven't had a single mouse in the house this season so he's earning his keep. He lives in the garage with a nice warm nest/bed to curl up in and has access to the outside. He thinks he should be allowed in to join the rest of the bunch but our last cat showed us just how much furniture can be destroyed in a short time, so he can protest all he wants, he's a garage kitty!
Well! This post got real long real quick! Sorry to ramble, but thought some might like 'knowing' who any future posts might be about.
