In February 2008, veterinarians across the country are teaming up for the first-ever National Canine Weight Check, a free and simple way to help you determine if your dog is overweight. Just take your dog to a participating veterinary office, and in many cases, you won’t even need an appointment. At the weight check: Your dog will receive a free weight assessment, including breed-specific information where applicable. You’ll receive a weight check card where you can keep a record of your dog’s weight, along with educational materials on canine obesity and its health implications. You’ll also receive a postcard that you can mail in for a free gift, just for participating in the weight check www.stopcanineobesity.com/ncwc

That's interesting and for most folks it will be a real eyeopener. I already know Lucky is overweight; the vet said he needs to lose 3-4# and boy it's as difficult to keep a dog on a diet as it is a human. The funny part is both Lucky and Goldie eat the same thing, both are active and spend plenty of time running and playing-both indoors and out and only Lucky is chubby. Maybe it's a Corgi trait to pack on the pounds.

My grandmother's dog is heavily over weight. I remember once when I was playing with her and gave her a push (she's a small dog) and she fell on her side and litterly rolled across the kitchen. When she's on her back she has a hard time getting up. This dog is FAT don't need a vet to tell me that she is LOL However, my grandmother refuses to put her on a diet and we don't live in the same state anymore. She keeps saying "She's fine" and thinks its cute. Now my cat Somber looks very fat, but she really isn't (thick fur) but she does have a huge gut after getting fixed that I have no idea how to get rid of.

Well... Jade is definatly overweight. Shilo is about perfect weight and Que`bie is that lanky "body hasn't caught up with his bones" still type of body. Jade could use a diet, but Shilo has ALWAYS had food in front of him his whole life... I'll have a better chance of just excersizing jade more than I would have of putting/keeping her on a diet.

Kaza, I think it's hard when you have multiple dogs; one of which can eat and eat and stay a healthy weight while the other packs on the pounds so easily.
I really thought once I got the fence up and they could run free, Lucky would slim down but that hasn't happened so far.

Well, I know it is my fault Millie is overweight, it's because of all those treats I give her.
