I thought I'd share what I did two years ago. It's super easy, and they have held up very well.
My husband cut me stepping blocks (stones, lol) out of a cedar log. Great big one's about 24 inches wide. They are thick..hmmm, I'd say around 6 inches. I then went on my search for sayings to burn on them with a woodburner. Cedar burns really easy with a burner, so it wasn't that complicated. I didn't put anything over them to protect them, and although the words are not as dark as when I first did them, they are still readable.
Some of the sayings I used were....
Free Slug hunting, Salt provided
Got kids? Have chaos!
Welcome to Grand Central Station
Goose crossing, don't slip
Gone Fishin', don't wait for us
I can't think of the rest without going out and looking at them, lol.
We dug down and put the stepping blocks down flush with the ground, makes easier mowing.

I like it!! When I get my own place again-I'm going to try making my own cedar stepping blocks/stones. I like the sayings you chose. Some hit real close to home-especially the goose crossing & slug hunting ones! ;D

Now that is an original and fun idea! The kids will always remember those stepping stones too!
