last spring I built about 20 of the bigger one out of scrap wood that was free at the local sawmill.I have a large garden every year and last year was no exeption.I sold tomatoes by the crate. these large ones held 15 lb. if the tomatoes were not stacked in the crate. I like the size of the smaller ones better but have not made more yet the large one is 16x24x6 and the small one is13x18x3

Logo might be a good idea though - and it would be a reminder where they got those tomatoes from the year before!

even if I buy the wood I can make the small ones for about $.80. not counting any labor

bob, have you thought about putting a few on Ebay? Or offer them on the barter boards-I know I'd buy some!

Im afraid the shipping would make them too high priced to sell.
do you have a paticular size in mind for yourself? what would you use them for?

Beautiful work! I'm torn about whether or not you should brand them but regardless, you should definitely sell them!!!
(I'd keep them unfinished so that whoever is lucky enough to get one can either leave it natural or finish it the way they want to.)

these are made of cotton wood. so they would not finish well. they could be made of oak ,but it would add to there weight and cost to produce

bob, I'd be using them to put magazines in and just to have setting around -stacking two together offset sort of like you have in the pic. My living room end tables are rustic light pine chests with wrought iron hasps so these would look perfect setting on top. Size, hmm something around 14" X 18" or even a little bigger. Not huge but big enough to hold a few magazines or an assortment of pretty rocks(I love pretty rocks ;D ). I may even put a few pots in one and plant some shade loving flowering cactus's. ;D The possibilities are endless!!

See I told you those were hightly sellable! ;D You do a really nice job with a lot of thought put into the finished product. You might try putting a few on Ebay, they have free listing days-one should be coming up soon. So you're not out any money other than making the box. If folks are willing to pay a reasonable price & the shipping; it could be a nice little sideline.

You aren't kidding Kathy! I'd get some too. Those are SO cool! And much sturdier than the crap you get at the farmer's market. I'd buy the tomatoes just to get the crate... ;D Makes me wish there was a sawmill here handy.

i have made several small carrying boxs, with handles in the middle. i used a hole saw bit on each end of the handle then jigsawed the holes together. a great source for any smaller wood working projects is pallets. alot of times you can get them cheap or ;Dfree. then disassemble them. i have even come accross some hardwood pallets.
