I made this when my son was about 5 years old. Thought it might be a neat project to do. You can make it as big or as small as you like. I bought a very good quality piece of wood and used a router on the edges. Measured the squares until they were mostly even. Stained the edges and back and then painted the squares. You can most likely find a board with the edges already done. I had someone make me a little box and I glued that togther. Then stained it. Painted a little design on the lid and edges. Then with hot glue put Velvet with trim on the inside. I bought already cut out wooden pieces for the Checkers and painted those. Once the paint and stain is totally dry, use a good quality paste wax on the board, box and pieces.

That is really pretty! I love checker/chess boards that are unique.
I got my grandpa's old wooden toy chest that he had as a kid. On the top of the lid is a checker board but it is faded, someday I hope to somehow do something really neat with it and redo it. Just don't know what yet, lol.

Thanks Deb. I have been meaning to make another one. Maybe even a Tic tac toe one too. Need to start crafting more.
