I live in an old house with windows that sometimes stick and then fall in the middle of the night; or they slide up and down easily. I want to make one of those stepped blocks that will let us open the window different heights without having 3 or more different size pieces of wood. I have a pattern from "Farm Mechanics" printed in 1922 but it isn't quite what I'm looking for.
Does anyone have any other ideas or patterns for something like this? Do you know what they are called so I can look them up in the reference material available?

I have no idea how you'd make that but I am not one who's good with spacial designs. When I had the old fashioned windows we drilled 3 different holes at different levels in the track and we had a nipped off heavy guage nail that we put in whichever hole to keep the window at the desired height. It wasn't as pretty as yours will be but it worked.

Made my first brace today using the idea from my book but altered a little. It actually turned out pretty good so I guess I'll do them all this way. If I can figure out how to post a photo I'll take a pic for show and tell.
