Fire Starter Pinecones
8 pinecones
1 box (16 oz) paraffin
Crayons (use up old crayons)
Scented wax squares
Candle wicks cut in 6" lengths
Regular old muffin tins
Melt paraffin in double boiler, add crayons for color and wax
squares if you want them for scent. When paraffin is smooth,
remove pan from heat and let the wax cool just long enough
so color will coat the pinecones. Holding pinecones with tongs,
dip cones in paraffin until well coated.Place cones on waxed
paper until the paraffin has hardened. Lightly grease mufffin
tins with vegetable cooking spray. If wax becomes too thick
to pour, reheat in double boiler.Fill each muffin cup half full
with paraffin. Place one end of a wick in each cup, leaving
the other end free. Place a pinecone upright in each cup;
allow paraffin to harden. Remove fire starters from cups.
These make nice gifts as well, add a card that states :
Place a fire starter under a log and light the wick.
I buy old muffin tins at garage sales and I like to do
this outside in the summer time or fall. I buy old
pots at garage sales for this as well.

Those would be great Holiday gifts in a pretty basket with a box of fireplace matches.
