Anybody intrested in a FQ swap? Just curious, I used to be in a couple of diffrent ones, but haven't for about a year or so now. It was always fun, and was something my daughter and I did together.
Who'd be intrested?

it's a yard of material, cut in half (selvage to selvage) then again top to bottom to form 4 pieces 18 X 25 inches. a FQ, or Fat Quarter. Kaza

OK I do know what a Fat Quarter is! The abbreviation threw me!! I'd be up for a swap!

Hello, newbie here. (Thank you for explaining FQ! I also checked the glossary that was posted because I wasn't exactly sure what 'selvage' was.)
I have a box of fabric that my mother gave me when she was getting rid of a lot of her craft stuff - I'll check it to see if I have big or small pieces.
How does a swap work? Would we send a single FQ to each person on the list? Is there a specific type of material (cotton, etc.) or can it be any type and pattern?

Via, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who wasn't positive about what a FQ was! ;D Does anyone know how many participants it takes for a good swap?? I think since Kaza was the one who came up with the idea she probably knows how these swaps work. Hopefully, she'll give us some ideas on how this works-I love fabric but am not a big fan of sewing.

Well... the more, the merrier, but most swaps I was a part of had up to 10 participants. they typically run one of two ways:
1) Each person sends 1 FQ to each person on the list.
OR
2) each person sends 1 FQ and a dollar for shipping for each participant to one person, and that person sends each person one package with all the FQ's from everyone.
I always liked individual mailings, because it's so much fun getting all those lil envelopes in the mail! (squishies)
Cotton is typically the prefered fabric... just think "quilt fabric". We could occassionally do a swap of diffrent fabrics and see what diffrent things people send.

Thank you for the information - that sounds like fun! I'll check tonight to make sure I have enough fabric and come back to you.
Kathy, that glossary is really helpful!

So far we have 3 to 4 people. Any more takers?
I'll plan the first one to be for February. With no particular theme.
We can discuss if we want future swaps to have themes such as color, holiday, patterns (like flowers or critters etc), or just leave it as themeless.
It is best if the FQ's are prewashed though, so they are at their final size when cut.
Anyone wanting to be on the swap, post here that your joining us and email me at: kazahleenah@gmail.com with a mailing address. By February 20th, I'll send each participant the list of addresses and we can send our FQ's out. March 1st will start the next swap, for anyone new who wants to join us ... the 20-31st will be the mailing dates. Sound good to everyone? We still have a few weeks to get more swappers, we'll start with up to 10.

I can't find the material anywhere - I think I'll have to sit this one out. I really need to do some spring cleaning. I still haven't unpacked everything from the last move...and now we're looking for somewhere else to move. Ugh. I'm sorry. /VM

via, you still have 20 days to find it. Since the signup goes till the 20th-just hold off on deciding till closer to the close date; who knows you might stumble across it by then. ;D I know I've stumbled across all sorts of things I hadn't seen in a long time; it's amazing what cleaning my closets will do!!

Kaza, you might want to take the details of the swap and repost them as a new thread and make it a sticky. More people may see it if it's at the top with all the details. Also, you could post something on the Family board about the FQ swap; just in case someone misses the thread here.
